Sam the Hurricane looks great, I live very close to Chad and I agree with you, if you need just about anything Chad is Awesome. Regarding your masking tape paint pull problem. Tamiya makes a very low stick masking tape which has proven to be gentle on underlying paint, when I used to build scale plastic models I used it to mask decals. Another option which might work is to use post it notes, I get the longer pads and overlap them, the trick with the post it notes is to use very little paint and lots of coats, to avoid the dreaded bleed under.
