I cheated on my Sbach with installing the motor. I took the head off and tied the piston at bottom dead center, put it on it's mounts after firstly ensuring the standoffs were the right lenght, and with the plane fully upright on it's tail prior to installing the rudder (so the motor didn't fall over), I just centered the motor in the cowl using the spinner backplate as a guide. Easy peazy, and the motor is bang on re centering, and as I ALWAYS re-loctite all motor bolts, it didn't really add too much work to do it that way.
