Maybe you could have dead spots in your comm. You know where the electricity can't get into the motor so it doesn't go. Or you might not have tightened the motor screws enough so when you go the motor goes to far back the pinion and the spur don't mesh. Then when you give it a push it throws the pinion back into the spur so it meshes until you pull the throttle again.
