That is how mine is setup, needle on the left, muffler on the right. I wonder why yours is on the right same side as the muffler, would be tricky to adjust and not get burned by the exhaust.

Every Saito single I have ever dealt with comes W/ the HSN on the starboard side. As Dave pointed out, that makes for a narrower installation width.
I always add an extension W/a short 90° Bend on the end for reference.
