Another RTF/ARF option for you is Hangar9's Alpha 40. I haven't flown it but a father and son have one in our club. I have seen it fly many times and have watched their progress over the summer. It's a very stable plane yet handles the "unconventional" flying of new pilots very well. (The nine-year-old boy had "video game" syndrome and did stuff with that plane that would curl your hair!)

From what I saw, it looks to be a great way to get into R/C. Horizon Hobby is the online distributor but may hobby shops carry it in stock.
