All issues resolved. Got the thing to smoke like a freight train. What had happened is that the rubber plunger had come loose and was stuck against the back. It looked as though it was suppose to be there with all the while it should have been connected to the white plastic arm that moves back and fourth. Took apart as little as possible, got the gear arm, plunger handle and black plunger out, super glued it back to the handle and we have smoke! Thanks for your offer Max!
