I have one and have other gas and glow models with ball-joint control connectors and I'm not sure that the "little half moon" pieces you are speaking of are necessary. The control horns of the CZC have flanges molded in that are a little higher than the surrounding surface to lift the ball for clearance if you installed them as shown in the drawings in the manual.
Just because DuBro solves a problem one way doesn't make it the standard for all.
CZC is a great model. We have five locally and no one has reported bromlems beyond the "hanger rash" the foam picks up. Super float plane.
