I bonded square tubing into the fuselage sides and used an air cylinder to move the canopy. I tried several servo-based setups, but wasn't happy with the results and wasn't convinced that they would remain robust over time. My current setup has lasted several years and several hundred flights. It is also completely hidden from view.
