I run the 9 Ch Powersafe receiver (can't remember the number) in several jets with dual A123 LiFe power and never had an issue. I wouldn't hesitate to go the route you propose and this from someone who flies Futaba 18MZ and Spektrum converted JR so no particular axe to grind.
