You really need to be careful when you start building kits. You can get addicted very very easily and it's a very hard habit to break. I would recommend, for your first kit, is not to go with something scale. But a simple kit like the Sig 4 Star 60, if you don't want big, go with the Sig 4 Star 40. These kits are easy to build and don't require advanced building skills.
If you really want something that looks more scale, yet has ease of construction, the Sig Kobra or King Kobra. The Sig King Kobra is a .60 size plane that is really fast.
One thing for sure, once you build your first kit, you will be addicted. The feeling of self satisfaction of going to the flying field with something you built will be over whelming. And the compliments you get from fellow club members will tend to swell the chest.
