Always listen to the control line guys when it comes to dope finishes. Here is a good one that goes set by step:

note three sources of dope, and where to get pure talc. Also the clear coat is important if you burn a lot of nitro fuels. On the old Formula One racers, we were using 65% nitro fuels that would be very tough on paint, but the clear protected the finish.
