Sorry bud, nothing new. That technic has been around for a very long time long time. The most popular adhesive is genuwine clear Shoegoo. And the most common tape is drywall tape but somepeople use fibreglass reinforced tape.

And the tamiya alloy tape is another technic and makes a good heat shield.
