Can't help you with the linkages, but you got me thinking when you said they were internal on the full scale, so I checked my photos of the one at Rhinebeck, and sure enough, no external control horns or wires. I'd never noticed that. It was a fast plane for 150 hp and 1918. Here's what I found in my photos...
