I've seen switches so used on planes that you could not feel the ident, so I, like you prefer my switch on towards the rear of the aircraft. As far as the transmitter is concerned, consistency is the only norm that I'm aware of.
Consistency is the only norm ? Then that must be me as every model that I have ever built / assembled, I always configured the switch to be ON towards the tail of the aircraft.
