If i drop down to a 17 x 8 wood prop, would that help and is that ok to run on a 30cc gas engine?
Thanks

As TR stated, depends on the engine, plane weight and the prop. I used to run the 18.1x10 apc on my Syssa 30cc. It worked well on the muffler and it produced another 1000 rpm on a pipe. No problems with a 12 pound airframe.
Dropping down to the 17x8 will work but you will leave a lot of torque on the table if you are using one of the more popular 30's.
Example, my OS GT33 loves the APC 20.5x10 narrow and the 20x10.5 narrow. But it's an absolute dawg on an 18x8" prop. I mean it runs fine but the larger draggier planes I fly don't do much
