Default RE: Goldberg Sukhoi

I am building a Goldberg Sukhoi too. Well ... I should say I was till I got sidetracked. (I set it aside to build my 33% Great Planes Extra.) I have the wing/ailerons finsished and also the tail feathers. I really beefed up the landing gear mount in the wing. I have seen a couple of these planes lose the landing gear on landings that didnt seem that bad. In fact I know that some guys move the landing gear mount to the fuse just in front of the wing saddle. I didnt want to do that so I just built mine stronger.

You should build the the horizontal and vertical fins extra strong or plan on using wire bracing to add strength.

I am using an OS BGX -1 35cc (2.10 ci) two stroke in mine. The kit calls for a 1.20 ci 2 stroke. If you check the power of a 1.20 2 stroke compared to the 2.5 hp of the Saito 1.50, you will see that you probably want more power. Dont get me wrong ... the Saito will certainly fly the plane ... it just depends on the type of flying you want to do. I have the Saito 1.50 in a Pilot kit Christen Eagle bipe. Its a great engine. The BGX, however, is 4.1 hp and should take the Goldberg Suhkoi straight up at half throttle.

When I get my Extra finished I will continue with the Sukhoi.

Good luck with your project ... its a great plane.
