I truly would love to hear of someone's experience with one of these on an SPA type plane since I'm planning to move up to a .60 size bird next year. I'm currently planning to use a Saito .91, but if this engine will match or exceed the performance I see no downsides to using the OS gasser.
Hey jester..... here's my Dirty Birdy with this new engine. I used the .60 size Macs black pipe, it bolts right up to this and weights about 4.5oz less then the clunky stock box muffler. Runs good and quite too. I had an issue with mine the pump leaked air and made for some erratic running especially after it was warmed up. I built a new wing as the stock one weights over 3lbs. My new wing comes in at 26oz. Overall weight is 6lbs 3oz.
The plane was plenty fast on a Zoar 13x8 9200rpms 13x10 Zinger at 8200rpms and this is only after several tanks of 50:1 gas mix.
The plane flew extremely well with more than enough power. I just need to get this pump issue fix then get it back in the air again.
notice where the fuel tank is, just in front of the servo tray. I also made it a tail dragger and saved 3.5oz by getting rid of the nose gear and linkage. Ground handles real good.
My only beef with OS on this is the price.... they take a bunch of hardware off, i.e. ignition components, and charge more.
The glow plug is about 12 bucks.... so whats up OS?
