No matter how much care is taken, however, the dismantling of mated parts invariably results in some degree of re-mating and consequent wear, and it is therefore never advisable, and should be done only when absolutely necessary. NEVER dismantle an engine in order to "decarbonise" it. Excess carbon is ejected by the engine automatically as it accumulates. As for carbon, I would follow the manual.
