To discharge a weapon in my neck of the woods is illegal. Of course I can go to a range and fire way... Not long ago a young person "cleaning" a gun (so he said) discharged the weapon in a condo unit close to my house. Long story short, they nailed him for the "discharge of a weapon" thing. Fortunately nobody was hurt, not him, not the neighbor...
Of course, this is an urban area... I know that to hunt deer close to my house you have to use a certain type of weapon. (No rifles allowed).
