The Tamiya rotation set up is the one design weakness(IMO). Ensure everything is engaging properly and lightly sand the turret locating tab to remove the hard edges. Try a little graphite powder on the sliding surfaces.

I am not sure what tank you have. The bigger the turret the more likely the problem.
It's the SS kit. I've tried reversing the the channels and that didn't help. I know that sounds odd but it didn't work. I thought maybe the person who put the elevation unit together may have soldered the wires incorrectly but revering should fix that also. I'll take a look at the tabs and sand as you said, the graphite sounds good too. Thanks for the reply.
