With due respect, the velocity of cool down is probably too low to blow the flame out the pipe or model, but enough to feed oxygen.
In my experience there is generally plenty of oxygen anyway but if the fire is right at the back - or the engine is mounted at the back with no tailpipe - it may keep the flame away from the structure untilyou get the extinguisher onto it.
