Default control troubles

Hey Y'all,
Ok this is my first post here. I just started flying electric heli's in june so I am a newbie to this but I am hooked.
I have 2 little indoor cheap heli's that I have no issues flying, really. I can do figure 8's and chase the dog around
and general stupid stuff. I recently bought a larger heli that I could fly out doors but I am having issues with it.
Before y'all flame me, it's a cheap copter that I bought from world tech toys, actually hobby tron but the stamp
on the heli is world tech toys. At any rate its roughly 31" long it's an RTF with 2 sets of rotors and a stabilizer
I know it doesn't compare to what y'all are flying but I couldn't afford a blade or heli-max but one or the other will
be my next step forward.
Now for my question. Sorry about the long windedness.
When it arrived the tail rotor was a little out of shape from shipping, so I straightened it the best that I could and the
right and left side seem to be pretty close to matching each other. Now, I can control it going up and down and turn it
in a circle with no issues. It isnt the most stable thing, meaning that I can't just let go of the stick and hold it in a hover.
I can't however seem to go forwards or backwards with it. On the ground at a idle more o less I can get it to pitch forward
or rearwards but once I get it to eye level all i can do is go up down, left or right.
Is there an adjustment in the radio that I am missing or is it in the tail rotor being out of pitch.
I realize that yes, it is junk. No I haven't crashed it and broken anything and all of the gears and servos seem to all be in tact
and working properly. Any ideas on what I can do to remedy this issue so that I just don't have a mantle piece to look at.
Thanks in advance for any help and really any suggestions for an upgrade would be greatly appreciated as I think come
tax time I'll be buying something new.

Thanks
Z
