Agreed. Sounds like a good set-up.
I've got a 34cc and the flying wires on the empennage . . . but I kind of like the gear on the wings. Wider stance and my second glow model was a Contender 60 (which I still fly) and that has similar. I think it looks better than the fuselage mounted gear. Personal preference.
Didn't go with carbon but I definately recommend ball-link attachments.
