Being a pylonracer as Speedracerntrixie I always replace the bearings on an engine that has been sitting for some years. Why! Well if you have been running the engine on Castor oil before it has now oxidized and turned into an orange goo that prevents the balls in the ball bearings from turning properly. That's the number one reason. number two is that the bearings has probably rusted during those eight years.
When you replace a ball bearing , see to that you buy a C3 or C4 bearing with plastic retainers and not just an ordinary standard steel caged bearing.
