If it has metal tracks then it *should* have metal gearboxes, otherwise you will likely blow up the nylon gears. Usually upgraded versions with metal tracks come with upgraded gearboxes, most likely the standard zinc metal versions and not the steel with bearings.

IMEX/Taigen and Mato both have good parts, however Mato is in Canada and most of the upgrade parts ship from China.
