It is not drones i..e. Multicopters, per se.

The actual issue is
1) camera enabled model aircraft
2) fpv enabled model aircraft
3) gps enabled model aircraft with autonomous modes
4) blos beyond line of sight flying
5) telemetry enabled model aircraft
6) intruding controlled airspace
7) flying for commercial purposes

again, its not multirotor, per se.

There was a way to make this distinction, which was in my comments to the faa back at the beginning of the year

ama would have done well to have adopted these distinctions and protected its base of traditional flyers.

On the other hand, the faa crudely hurled this steaming piece of garbage ruling (spogr) onto us, the flying public.
They have thrown down the gauntlet and it is now our problem to walk this spogr back.
That is why i say, if you find yourself having enough time to rant on any rc website, and i am not saying that isn't fun / useful, then you have time to gather your thoughts, be cool, and call your congressional rep.
Mine had a staffer that was mature and reasonable, took my comments and contact info, and we had ourselves a good little chat.

Please call your congressperson if you want to do anything about this situation. It starts there.
You might see i left my comment to do just that on the ama's info youtube video.
They should have been helping us with that - that is what frosts my toes.
To me, they still aren't organized, and that makes me wonder how they were perceived by the faa.

I understand that they have hired hotshot legal counsel in dc - but it didn't work, yet.
i don't think any ama big guys ever thought they would be in this kind of fight when they ran for office, so that is the break i will cut them.
However, i agree with some of the criticism, above, and this may be a watershed moment for ama, where it may become less in the future.
