I just think the AMA had its shot, what comes next could be its swan song.
I do believe this rule, it is not a law, can be walked back, showing that it does originate from an "Agency," not Congress.
My ounce of effort in this whole thing is to get people to call their Congressional Rep if they see this as an unwarranted encroachment on liberty, that we are being demonized by the FAA to the public, we have to be looking over our shoulder for flashing lights from now on. I want to be able to go to an empty park and fly without some handwringing soccer mom dialing 911, which by nature sets off a high-tension situation. THAT is what I foresee, coupled with with a Press that is ravenous for blood stories and will blow things way out of proportion to suit their needs. The small amount that I am around Press for business purposes, I tell everyone to be tight-lipped on anything. I've seen words twisted into unrecognizable statements when they hit print.
THAT, again, is why I am so against this. I did my thing about safety by joining the AMA two years ago when I re-entered the hobby. Since about that very time everything has gotten hairy. I do believe this rule can be walked back, and I believe the FAA knows that. They just used a blunderbust to start, not even a shotgun.
