I went ahead and registered my name on the Faa site. I was holding off until the AMA gave is clear direction. In a recent email from the AMA they mentioned they are still working on things going forward as far as our AMA# being the FAA # and that renewing with the AMA will hopefully renew for the FAA. But then they stated that the deadline is jan 19 and registering by then is free and you can avoid the $5 charge. Well to me that meant they arent gonna get through all they hoped and if you want to save the $5 do it before the deadline fast approaching - so I did. They still take your CC# but will refund you the $5 if you do this before the 19. The FAA number is longer than I thought it would be and will be an inconvenient marking for sure. Looks like this # will be good for 3 years and then needing renewal, hopefully not more money in the future.
