Alright alright alright! Florida Jets has come and gone and the beautiful Skymaster Large hawk took flight! In my initial observations, the aircraft flew very stable in what everyone knows are pretty harsh conditions at FJ with 20mph crosswinds with gusts. I have not installed the gyro yet and even though it does not need it, it will make those crosswind landins smoother!
The aircraft tracks like a pattern plane and maintains momentum when engine power is reduced. This is helpful in case of engine failure. Helps carry the plane and maintain speed while you select an emergency landing location and procedure. I had 4 flights at the show and every flight after fine tuning, the flights were even better.
Overall, I found the P200 to fly the aircraft with authority, flying at approximately at half throttle after established in the down wind. At full throttle, the bird really moves at a speed that is too fast for scale looking performance but the aircraft is solid and able to handle the power without a problem!
The expos and throws recommended by Anton are spot on. The CG is a little nose heavy for my liking and will continue to work on that after I install the gyro. With the P200, I was getting 10 minute flights and only using 1/2 the fuel tank. I use a lot of throttle management but a nice 10 minute flight with reserves is no problem! I did not use the smoke this weekend but will be used at Nall for sure!
The aircraft has a great presence in the air! The details are easily seen during low passes and even at higher speeds. It drew a lot of attention and the positive comments about the airframe were coming all day long.
I am looking forward to some tweaking and flying along with Craig South at Joe Nall!
Keep an eye out for the build and review of the New large Skymaster F-18C/D model to come soon!
Great Job on an amazing aircraft Anton!
