"Similar" yes. There are a couple different types available, at Home Depot, for example, that I use for small panels/sections, as it only comes in 3"" width. One is very similar to FliteMetal. For large fuselage and wing sections, I've found nothing better though than FliteMetal. The FliteMetal is much more workable for stretching around curves etc.
