Tape is fine. UV resistant clear is preferred but brown packing tape will 'git her done'.

Duct tape makes you a redneck for sure of course.

Clean off the area around the hole with soapy water [ plus a quick swipe with acetone if you have any ] then round off the corners of the tape patch before applying.
