Hello all,
I have finished the final fitting of the wings. I like it !!!
The top hole for the pins has been capped and the pins cut to size. Now that the pins are cut it is necessary to make sure they are installed with the threads for the 4-40 bolts at the bottom of the pin. It makes the pin easier to pull out for removing the wings. Not really needed for inserting the pins. A little wiggling of the wings and they will slide in place.
I have made these little brass caps for holding the pins in place.
These round pieces of balsa at the front of the wings was easy to make. I just folded the wings back and glued balsa blocks in place and kept carving them down as I brought the wings forward. I wanted them to fit as best I could. Then I added some spackel to blend them in and glassed them.
These wing strakes or whatever they are called were next. I just built them out of balsa again, carved them to shape and glassed them also. Notice that the inner and outer strakes are different shapes. I liked the way the inner strake fits at the seaming line of the hatch and hides it.
I have also glued the sensor that fit under the nose of the F-14 in place. A very prominent unit on the F-14
So, moving along. Time to do the main gear doors. This is going to be real fun. LOL
To be continued . . . .
