I have a requirement for a replacement Hall Effect Sensor to mate with an aftermarket electronic ignition system that I sourced from Hobbyking. I cut back the shrink tubing at the sensor end to reveal the three leads that are wired back to the ignition box. By process of elimination, I discovered the sensor was faulty as a spark at the plug was produced only after a replacement sensor was connected. Hall Effect Sensors are widely available through online sources like Ebay as a stand alone electronic component ready for soldering and the price is less that a couple of Canadian dollars for a package of ten sensors including the mailing costs! I'm hoping someone more technically initiated than myself can explain whether all of these sensors are alike and thus usable for the electronic ignition application. Do all (or at least most) RC ignition modules use the same sensor? Will the ones commonly available from online sources like Ebay work? If not, what sensor designation do I need to find and where might one purchase them? Is there a simple test one can perform using a voltmeter to look for a trigger voltage signal when a rare earth magnet is passed back and forth over it?
