Yeah I left it out on purpose and sistered it in afterwards with epoxy for a perfect fit, I've done this before with great results. It never made sense to me to sand the matting surfaces to get them to line up when it could just be done afterwards. Of course this only works when you know how high to prop up the wing tip.
