I had torn apart my Wroncho to build the 1/6 Jeep. The Jeep was fun to build, and run, but heavy (14.5 Lbs), went through 2 servos, and split an Axial beadlock rim at the axle hex.
I'm 57, and although I'm in good health, over the years, I've injured both my knees, my back, and broke my foot, and walking over uneven terrain is a pain-in-the-ass, especially if it's recently rained, then the trails are slippery.
So I've decided to rebuild my Wroncho, hence the II. This one will be a true wroncho. Ordinarily, and I did it on the first one, the builds I've seen use an SCX-10 chassis with Wraith AR-60's. I'm using the altered scx-10 chassis from the Jeep, with the Wraith skid and AR-60's. Still using the extended rear frame rails, just made a new rear bumper. I had to extend the front frame rails 3" and made a new front bumper out of 1/2 inch flat bar. I put the 35t motor back in, but kept the 32p gears.
The jeep had a 14.5" wb, and the wroncho has a 12 3/4" wb, so I shortened the rear links, and replaced the long Punisher shaft with the original Junfac's, which since I don't have the long rear output on the tranny, I had to grind out some of the plastic on the rear of the skid to clear the thickness of the Punisher shaft. The Junfac fits perfectly.
Ok, so that's the cosmetic stuff. Over the last couple years the original Wraith axles from my Ridgecrest have taken quite a beating, so if I'm going to use this as a desert racer, I'm going to have to beef up the axles a bit. As funds become available, I'm hoping to purchase aluminum axle housings from either RC4WD or Vanquish. If any of you have any opinions on these choices, I'd like to hear them, good or bad.
I know desert racers usually use a solid axle in the rear, and IFS up front, but I'm different. When I was growing up, guys were running straight axles up front.
