Default RE: Question for Dick Hanson

Hi Dick and Kevin,

Dick I have a question for you regarding this engine, I scratch built a Midwest Extra 300 and it weighs 8.5 lbs with everything minus engine. I put this together fairly quick and I plan on using it as a 3D practice plane. My projected weight with this engine would be 13lbs.

What I want is a fairly inexpensive gas engine like the Roto 35 to put in it. Do you have actual flying experience with this engine and does it pull like a ZDZ being a rotary valve.

It seems like a nice light little engine, Lighter than the ZDZ 40, but does it make any tork or does it just rev. I could also go with the ZDZ 40 or 50 but the weight goes up and so does the cost, do I really need it.

I had a Fuji BT 32 in this plane and it could turn a 18-8 zinger at 8300 but it had no poop! If I put a 20-8 on it I would only get 5000 rpm. It would hover with the 18-8 but could not pull out. So I sold it, I like the look of the Roto. What do you think.

Any one else have an opinion! Thanks.
