To me it will be easier doing it your way, I tried a dry run, trying to hook up the control wire between servo and spoiler before I cover it and it seemed impossible. I think the issue is the way it attaches to the spoiler itself, if I use a little piece of plastic tube it might make it a lot easier because I'd be eliminating the z-bend.
