I use flaperons, and they help a lot on takeoff, full flaps! For landing I use half flaps, it slows down nicely. Expect unusually long takeoff rolls intiallly until you get comfortable with flaps and pulling up hard. It takes off like a nose heavy F-16.
The elevators are very effective, so I'm guessing they should work fine as tailerons.
