I should probably just do that; switch to Avgas. It's not even that expensive and the benefits of quality control and stability of the fuel are quite significant. And you certainly know the octane is sufficient for any type/brand engine you might use. Plus it smells good and reminds me of my racing and piloting days!!
A caveat though. If you fly a lot, or use whatever machine you might put the Avgas in a good bit, it would be good to change the spark plug a bit more often than normal to avoid any lead fouled spark plug issues. It wouldn't hurt to pull the muffler off once a year and inspect for carbon build up as well. These issues however, are not a "deal breaker" against Avgas, and might only be a small issue on heavily used equipment.
Jeez, I was wandering through Home Depot yesterday, and noticed the special premixed "Non-Ethanol" gas they sell for weedeaters and such. $22.00 a gallon!!!!! What a rip off!!! I suppose though, that if it kept a non-mechanically inclined homeowner from having a $100.00 repair shop bill once or twice a year, that it might be worth it. But man, more expensive than glow fuel!!
