When we eliminated the Introductory class we also opened up Novice to non-SPA airplanes just as the former Introductory class had (less than 72 inch wingspan, same engine requirements). Membership in SPA is not required for Novice, although it is required if you want to earn season points. Thus, Novice serves the same function that the Introductory class served. There were few participants in the Introductory calss and there were few in Novice. It made sense to combine the two by easing the requirements in the Novice class as outlined above.
