George,

I sure hope that lower gear strut is just for decorative purposes. Aluminum casting is extremely brittle and has a very low UTS. Looks beautiful but I question durability. Keep an eye on it. Should be ok if you do smooth landings all the time. (Note machined Aluminum can be significantly stronger if the right alloy is chosen).

BTW, OS engines are made of a type of Calamine, which is a very light but very soft Aluminum. What sets OS apart is their high quality cylinder liner and their tight tolerances during build, which results in excellent performance. Otherwise their Aluminum is not great for landing gear applications. Plus, when you melt it and regenerate it without the proper cooling recipe, it could be useless.
