Seeing your kit-built models in the 90's and 00's was one of the things that got me hooked into jet modeling and attending events. These days, we're lucky to see two or three kit-built models at an event.
I'm not the builder some of the guys from 'back in the day' are, but I'll always be a builder, too. The time isn't meaningless, but when that time is spent building
with your loved ones, then all the better.
Before I had kids, I sat down and built airplanes and rockets from kits with my nephews. Now my son helps me and I'm very grateful to get to share this hobby with him. No Plug-N-Play going on over here
