Default RE: Fiber Classics Discussion

The material, or contruction method used on the CARF is that of:

1. Layer of clear gelcoat, or white, or red or blue...depend on your selection. Also on prepainted version, paint would be airbrushed after the clear.

2. At least one layer of glass fiber, looks like 2oz.

3. One layer of high density foam - about 3mm - looks like Rohacell - but probably not because Rohacell would be too expensive.

4. Follow the foam is another layer of glass fiber.

5. Some carbon fiber on top of the glass in area where extra strenght, and rigidity is needed.

This method of constuction is very similar to full scale aerospace construction - very light, and very strong. This type of constuction yeild strenght in the direction needed. Also curves, and corner also provide stiffness to the whole design...hence less formers are needed to be installed.

I could go on and on here...but basically I feel that the constuction method is excellent. As thin as the walls are...they surprisingly has great resistent to punture. Pretty easy to fix if one has any experience with composite constuction.

I don't know...my 2.6m is probably by far the best airplane I've ever bought. Straight and True right out of the box.

Not a bad value at all for a $990 (Red/White)

Darn...I should be the sale guy for CompARF...
