It seems to me that the problem is in the way the rope is attached to the dowel.
Because it is not symmetrical respect to the center of the rig, a twisting torque (yaw) is applied by the very weight of the model.

Also, that knot next to the trailing edge of the left wing may be affecting the left loop.
I would make two independent loops and two plumbs (plumbs to have a loose loop on dowel, so are not affected by rotation of the dowel by hand).
