Most problems I see with poor float set-up is when they are too short, and when they don't ride high enough in the water. Make sure the floats extend several inches beyond the prop, and the step is about an inch behind the CG.. Floats for a 40 size plane are too small. Much fun when you have a well set-up plane, misery if not. Good general info at this site:
