Photos that are attached (using the attachment manager) will appear as thumbnails at the bottom of a post, but photos inserted directly into the post appear to display at full size.
Posts inserted inline, using a link to the user's RCU album, or a 3rd party site like Photobucket or flickr or imgur, will be resized by the forum software to fit the thread column.
