Anyone ever consider combining (I know it has been done before but) a model rocket with like a delta wing and a properly weighted nose cone with ejector charge vents outfitted with elevons on the back end so you can launch your plane up and then glide it back down?
As a kid I built rockets out of empty paper towel tubes and carboard from boxes wherever we could find them. The nose cone was made of wood and because we were broke high school students the best we could do was put a little up elevator on the rear of the delta wing we hot glued opposite the v shaped tail fins. I couldn't afford a receiver and radio and to be fair in 1990, there wasn't a servo or radio system for that matter available as cheap as they are today. Anyway, the D sized motors weren't powerful enough to get us more than a couple hundred feet up and then it would level off and glide down. It was great, but I'd have loved to achieve our dream configuration.
I'd like to pick it up again and give it a shot with a couple 9 gram servos and a cheap receiver sometime, when I get the guts that is.
