At least two TX RX setups use a telemetry download setup.
Plug in something like this
Jeti Telemetry Sensor Altimeter MAlti EX
And you have a readout on the tx lcd screen for more money you can have a talking tx telling you the altitude.
Gonna blow your 15$ budget though.
