Actually I brush most of it. I build primarily WW1 models and the brushing works better. Buy a quality Latex brush, synthetic bristles. Do not use a foam brush. I keep the brush wet, by dipping it in water, a quick tap onto a paper towel , then into the paint. I do this every brush load. I like 1" and on larger areas 2" brushes. Do not let them dry. Either immediately clean them or put them in a cup of water.

Now having said that, I am building a 1/3 scale se5a that has a lot of metal on the front of the fuse. I sprayed that. I thinned the paint about 25-30% with water. I experimented on the amount before spraying the plane. It worked very well.
