Tamiya also sell a static Abrams but I think a full RC upgrade does not make this option viable ...
The hulls are stock HL and do fine. I have had no issues with the hull at the suspension mounting points. I did damage an idler wheel mount but it was not the fault of the plastic or mods. Operating error combined with repeated high speed crashing into obstacles and lots of experimenting over the last year finally took their toll. The idler mount was repairable but I chose to simple replace the entire hull with another I had from a tank I bought to use as parts. I recently bought another hull for $35 delivered off of eBay to do some crazy mods on next.
If you just want an out of the box highly detailed static model then the Tamiya Abrams is worth the money. It can be refitted to RC should you wish too much easier than other static models.
